Pic threeWest Africa Institute (WAI) is since 2010 part of a collaborative research project with Centro de Estudos Sociais (CES) of the University of Coimbra, Portugal and Association Internationale “Le Sujet dans la Cité” (LSC). In the framework of the project, a seminar on the theme: «Migrations and biographical stories », was held on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the conference room of Instituto Superior de Ciências Jurídicas e Sociais, Praia, Cape Verde.Pic two

The project focuses on three questions raised by a comprehensive approach of the study of migrations: (i) What is the perspective of the migrants about their migratory experience? (ii) What is the impact of research on the life of migrants and immigration society? (iii) How to recognize the subject interlocutors beyond a merely purpose search? This collaborative research expect to examine simultaneously the experiential perspective of migrants who move between countries, cultures, languages, etc., and the meeting between investigators and Dialogic subject on the ground.

Two themes have been shared with the audience in order to highlight the first research findings and the relevant outcomes of the project in its experimental phase. Pic-oneProf. Elsa Lechner, Project Coordinator, presented her contribution on « Biographical research in migrations study: a collaborative project based on the related story of migrants of Coimbra ». The second presentation from Prof. Clara Keating, Researcher at CES, was focused on « Spoken languages, sign languages and movements: subjective experience of migrants ».

The project will end in February 2014 with a closing workshop in Coimbra.
