IvorianMinistersOn the sidelines of the goodwill and working visit to Praia on 10th and 11th March 2014, Mr. Charles Koffi Diby, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Côte d' Ivoire, Mr. Roger Kacou, Minister of Tourism and Ambassador of Côte d' Ivoire to Cabo Verde visited the West Africa Institute (WAI), in the company by their close associates. The visit was at the invitation of Mr. Jorge Alberto da Silva Borges, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cabo Verde who led the delegation.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of WAI, Monsieur José Brito, gave an overview of the reasons that informed the creation of WAI, including: addressing the lack of a structure for research and a platform for dialogue and exchanges on regional integration and social transformations in West Africa. Indeed, WAI organizes public dialogues, is training a new generation of elites on regional integration and engages in strategic partnerships within and outside the African continent.

The Director General of the WAI, Prof . Dr. Djénéba Traoré, presented the institute as a "think tank" dedicated to the integration of states and peoples of the West African region. She highlighted the fact WAI has come to fill the gap between policy and scientific research on regional integration and social transformations, by bringing together all parties interested in a given issue and stimulating decision-making informed by the results of relevant studies.WAI MIREX andPCA

The ministerial delegation unanimously commended WAI’s innovative actions and the quality of their results. The Minister of State, Mr. Charles Koffi Diby, suggested that the institute be empowered to become ECOWAS research center, capable of shaping the regional institution in decision making and policy formulation.

Both the Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Director General of WAI thanked the ministerial delegation for the strong support manifested towards WAI and their commitment to   promoting scientific research on regional integration and social transformation in Africa West.
